Dr. Delarise Mulqueeny is a Senior Lecturer: Community Development at the Department of Social Work, University of Zululand. Her post-doctoral fellowship was in gender and childhood sexualities while her PhD (HIV positive patients’ experiences of the ART programme at ARV clinics in public hospitals within the eThekwini District) from the School of Nursing and Public Health, University of KwaZulu-Natal focused on patient-centred care and health systems strengthening.
Her background is in gender and childhood sexualities, public health, social work, education, family therapy, business administration, industrial psychology, and criminology. Being a family therapist, social worker, educator by profession and her lived experiences she grounds her research areas in HIV programmes, patient-centred care, positionalities, sexualities, intimate partner violence and gender.
She has also authored three books, MY HIV Journey as a woman of colour in South Africa navigates her personal, social, and medical journey being HIV positive; Yes, I can articulates her coping strategies while navigating cervical cancer and intimate partner violence and Do women really need men in their lives provides women’s opinions on the topic.
