Dr M. Xamlashe is a qualified medical practitioner with over 20 years’ experience in hospital management and health-system leadership within the public sector. His professional expertise spans clinical governance, strategic management and health-sector transformation.
In addition to his medical qualifications, Dr Xamlashe has specialised interests and formal training in labour law and information and communication technologies, enabling him to bridge clinical, legal and digital considerations in complex healthcare environments. He has held several senior executive roles, including Director: Medical Services, Chief Executive Officer of Cecilia Makiwane Hospital, and Acting Chief Executive Officer of Livingstone Hospital, where he was responsible for large-scale service delivery, operational performance and institutional turnaround initiatives.
Dr Xamlashe has been an active participant in the re-engineering of the health platform in support of Universal Health Coverage, contributing to policy implementation and system redesign aimed at improving access, efficiency and quality of care. He is also a founding member of the national flagship Cecilia Makiwane Hospital in Mdantsane, Eastern Cape, and was closely involved in its establishment and early institutional development.
Beyond his professional responsibilities, Dr Xamlashe is passionate about leadership mentoring and development. His personal interests include golf and rugby.
