Dr Bulumko Futshane is a seasoned physician-executive with over two decades of experience spanning clinical practice, public health leadership, and health-systems strengthening across Africa and the United States. He brings 22 years of expertise in medical affairs, pharmacovigilance, clinical research, and strategic program management—integrating scientific leadership with operational excellence to drive patient-centred innovation and sustainable impact.
As Director of Programs at Beyond Zero, Dr Futshane oversees multi-country Global FundHIV/TB grants exceeding USD 145 million. He leads strategic planning, governance, and quality improvement initiatives across nine provinces, ensuring alignment with donor and national health priorities while maintaining a record of zero compliance findings. His leadership has advanced collaboration with SANAC, WHO, the Global Fund, and Ministries of Health to strengthen systems, improve accountability, and optimise service delivery for vulnerable populations.
Previously, as Executive Director at Africare South Africa, he directed CDC/PEPFAR- funded programmes, policy advocacy, and institutional partnerships with global health entities and academic institutions. His earlier work with Management Sciences for Health (SIAPS), Howard University Global Initiative, and the Walter Sisulu University Regional Training Centre contributed to national pharmacovigilance systems, rational medicine use, and integrated HIV/TB care models across Southern Africa.
A graduate of the University of Transkei (MBChB) and Johns Hopkins University (MPH), Dr Futshane also holds graduate certificates in Global Health and Environmental & Occupational Health, a Healthcare Economics Certificate from Harvard University, and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the Quantic School of Business and Technology, completed in September 2025. He was credentialed HIV Specialist (AAHIVS) by the American Academy of HIV Medicine in 2009.
